SIDIRION

ErdNRath lifted his monstrous head and roared his grief across the world. The earth trembled with his pain; mountains shuddered and the seas rolled up their waters to crash them onto the sand. He blew his fiery breath up and down the body of his beloved, trying in vain to bring her back to life but she did not stir. In misery he watched as her once slick, shining green scales began to turn grey and dry, dying. His Queen had been destroyed by an accident, buried by a landslide which it had taken her King days to dig out. Now the people huddled in the forests in fear as his terrible sounds continued and the world shook. Eventually the great dragon took his Queen’s tail into his mouth and pulled it back into his throat as far as it could go. Then, with difficulty, he lifted his head with her body hanging between his teeth and with great effort he flew slowly from his home in the Dragon Mountain towards the sea. His shadow passed over the land, the fields and the villages, the people standing in respect now that his roaring had ceased. They raised their voices as he slowly flew above them, calling his name and shouting their sorrow for their Dragon Guardian and his mate. ErdNRath heard their tiny voices, which brought a little comfort to his soul. After some time he reached the ocean. Flying slowly out to sea, so that the great size of his Queen would not cause a tsunami over the land, he selected a place for her and gently, with difficulty, lowered her massive body into the water. For a short time, she sat like an island in the ocean then, slowly, she sank. Her body displaced so much water that a series of waves rippled over the sea and reached the shore with a fanfair of splashes. ErdNRath flew back to his mountain range, and the people beneath wondered what would become of them now.
