About the Book

Is it easy to make money in commodities?

Yes, it is easy. Is it easy to lose money? You bet, and that is the problem. Any person can flip a coin to take a long or short position in a given commodity, and probably come up with a profit. The trick is to continue to profit over and over again. This talent is what separates the men from the boys in the commodity game. And, it is a game! The chips are real dollars and the payoff comes immediately.

The Dow Jones-Irwin Guide to Commodities Trading is written to help even the novice understand and trade profitably in the entire market. In this revised edition, every page has been rewritten or updated. The author, a professional commodities trader, answers some of the most commonly asked questions about commodities trading, which include:

  1. What roles do the farmer, the processor, the floor trader, the speculator, and the merchandiser play in determining prices?
  2. What are the fundamentals of successful trading that everyone can master?
  3. Is trading commodities more complex than trading stocks?
  4. How does one open a commodity account?
  5. Does an ordinary investor have the same chance to perform as successfully as the professional trader does?
  6. How does one compute the brokerage fees charged in commodities trading?
  7. How did the author make $65,000 in several months in the commodities market?
  8. How can the author's Guesstimator table help one to develop a successful trading strategy?

What defeats most traders? The same thing that defeats most people in any game-they don't have a plan. Can you develop a plan for commodity trading? Yes, you can! And, that is what this book presents – a concrete method for trading commodity futures in a sane and successful fashion.
