DIGNITY
Even though I flee to
protect myself,
Can I find a place to hide
from jealousy,
Or shall I belittle myself
to envious rivals?
Although anger pulls words
from me,
Let good judgment advise me
to keep silent.
Let dignity allow me to
crave for peace.
My dear Father,
You have heard what sorrows cling to my chest.
I turned my eyes upon the
enemies,
Yet their faces lit with
envy.
LAND OF THE LIVING
In the name of humanity let
peace strive.
In the name of the universe
let it’s beauty shine.
In the name of mankind
support it’s continuation.
In the name of greed let’s
close our eyes.
In the name of power let
compassion be it’s guide.
Look at your inventions
Look at your history.
Look at your poverty.
Shame running all over your
face.

About the Book
This book invites all men and women of conscience to
share with a brother who had a dream. From personal experience observing the
suffering of mankind these poems reflect the human condition. This powerful
collection of poems will make you think, cry and cause you to tingle with its
hard-hitting honesty.
About the Author
Melbourne Peat was born in Belvedere Portland,
Jamaica. He is one of twelve children of Easton Peat (deceased) and Mabel Peat.
Melbourne Peat seved fifteen years in the Jamaica
constabulary force before migrating to the United States in 1983.
Melbourne Peat was greatly influenced by the
autobiography of Malcolm X , and after completing reading it he began reading
five books per week. Mr. Peat completed his Associates Degree in Liberal Arts
Social Science from Essex County College in Newark, New Jersey and has
continued his studies at Montclair State University.
Melbourne Peat has had his poetry published by the National Library of Poetry, The Poetry Guild, IBID Essex County Yearly Book, and a short story in The Greater News Weekly Journal.
