About the Book
In A Wild Bird in My Open Hand, Rod Grant explores the ultimate
questions of life, death and human destiny. But he also writes, with rich
poetic economy, about the experiences of everyday life love, the death of
friends, changes in the seasons, and the ironies of human existence. He draws
inspiration from the natural beauty of the surroundings where he lives, the
mountains, forests and sea of the Olympic Peninsula in the State of Washington.
In “Dandelion and Late
Winter”, he strikes an upbeat tone for the book. In “Free and Green Evening”, he relates experiences at the
edges of our normal range of awareness. In “Mortality
and Serenity”, from which the
title of the book is taken, he positions us for the inevitable end of life. It
is a book of remarkable variety and deep insight.
