About the Book
"If my prisoner is abusive or fanatic, I’ll hurt him, but he’ll be alive. It’s very difficult to shoot someone." Most of his prisoners respected and even liked him. He was compassionate, fair to all, and had a wonderful sense of humor. Despite all he had to contend with as a Vice Squad plainclothes officer, he never pulled the trigger. His captain put him in plainclothes immediately after his six months probation. The chief inspector once told me in secret, that Les was one of the best cops in the city of New York. When he finished his term, he went into business. He had been a male model, then worked in the Navy Yard. He left and went to the police academy.
