About the Book

During the years of the civil rights struggle in America, Maggie founded the first West Coast Branch of the NAACP. In a wonderful weave of fact and action, Conrad H. Bullard tells the story of Maggie Hathaway, Civil Rights Activist, actress, writer and Freedom Fighter who refused to give up a dream. A dream that compelled her to demand and encourage the entertainment industry and professional golf course owners to open the door for Black actors, Black athletes, and give them the opportunity to compete and participate.

Disrespected and harassed by the male entertainment industry moguls, mass media and police, she was described by them as militant and threatening. This is a riveting first-hand account of the tense and dramatic years of the civil rights struggle in fine arts and sports, which are now contrasted so strikingly as a result of the change of power and Maggie’s wonderful spirit for a continuous journey for freedom . . .
