About the Book

Golfing in Jesus’ Spirit uses this sport as a metaphor for the pursuit of a fulfilled life. In a novel format the author weaves spiritual truths into a tale from which non-golfers also can benefit.

The plot begins on a flight from Hong Kong, where Joe Weaver has just accomplished what he thought was his life’s last major achievement. But he dares to ask his wife and then God whether there might be another goal for which he should strive. By a mysterious convergence of signs and events, Joe discovers that his final goal must be reached through golf.

The author believes that old Joe Weaver’s amazing story can rekindle hope in downhearted people. It especially can rejuvenate the elderly who think their lives are all in the past.

About the Author

George Olson prefers to be called by his nickname, Bud, because he claims to be like a bud that has yet to bloom.

In 2001 he published his first novel, Pre-emptive Love, How a Hiroshima Man’s Story Might Save Hong Kong. (available from 1st Books Library by phone at 1-888-280-7715 or via www.1stbooks.com)

Olson’s varied work in Hiroshima, Japan, led him eventually to serve the Japanese church’s mass media ministry through the Lutheran World Federation Broadcasting Service’s Tokyo office. Ecumenically he became Coordinator for Television Awareness Training in Asia, editor of the Japan Christian Quarterly, and a founder of the Chinese media ministry of Kairos Communication Service International based in Alhambra, California. In 1982 he received the Outstanding Service Award from the Alumni Association of Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois.

He was born and raised in Gary, Indiana. He and his wife Miriam now reside at Pilgrim Place in Claremont, CA. They annually return to a rustic cabin at Lake Nojiri, near Nagano City, Japan, where some of the action in this book takes place.
