"New rules,” David tossed Nate his backpack. “From now on no one wanders off, everyone sticks together and no one takes off their pack. Not unless it's absolutely necessary, understand?”
Nate caught his pack and strapped it on, “Why, what’s wrong?”
John scanned the area with his light, "Someone or something cut our rope. We’re trapped in here unless we can find another way out.”
“Cut our rope?” Nate frowned. “Who would cut our rope?”
John shrugged, “I don’t know. I just know this is way more dangerous than we thought. Make sure your packs are shut tight. We don’t want to lose anything.”
“I think I found something," Nate aimed his light up ahead.
John’s eyes followed the beam to a faint trail on the cavern floor. “Okay, let’s check it out. You lead the way, but first hand me the paint. I’ll mark our route just incase we have to back track.”
"Good thinking,” Nate said passing him the can. “Otherwise we could get lost in here forever.”
Jenny aimed her light over the side of the cliff catching sight of the skeletons below. “I know one thing for sure — we'd better stay away from this edge. I don’t think any of us want to end up down there with them.”
“With who?” Michele tried to see.
“Never mind,” Jenny moved her light. “You don’t want to know.”

Hi, my name is Christy Davis and I've currently written four books for kids ages eight and up. They include: The Mountain of Stone, Newshounds, Edgar and Scary Story.
My childrens books are fiction and full of mystery, adventure, fun and excitement. They're thrilling, chilling, scary, spooky and funny. They're about treasure hunts, pirates, caves, mountain men, monsters, scary monsters, possessed houses, good ghosts, bad ghosts, girls, boys, dogs, cats, rats, bats, agents, secret agents, spies, kid reporters, good guys, bad guys, graveyards, caveboys, dinosaurs, saber-tooth tigers, notes in bottles, haunted mansions, secret passageways, stormy nights and action packed days. The kids find themselves jumping, running, being chased, running, hiding, falling, (a lot of screaming and running,) setting booby traps, spying on people, inventing things, reporting and writing stories, investigating, problem solving, and solving mysteries. They learn how to depend on each other. They attend funerals and weddings, blow up science labs, sword fight with pirates, build rafts, swim, dive off yard arms, capture ghosts, solve old mysteries, create fire and weapons, fish, play chess and still manage to stay alive so I can bring them all back again for part II.
