King David and King Solomon were
father and son who lived on earth about 1000 BC. Together, they account for
heartfelt messages and songs recorded in four books of the Holy Bible. King David of Israel,
authored 150 Psalms; his son, Solomon, authored Proverbs, Ecclesiastes
and The Song of Solomon.
The Book of Psalms
reveals the Way in which King David sang his praises to the LORD so that others
might benefit from his insightful devotion. The Way of the LORD was never meant
to be exclusive to David. King David experienced the covenant-agreement with
the LORD in his own lifetime, on this side of the grave. God’s Way is not
intended to be a mystery to Man who is made in the image and likeness of His
Creator. God has never ceased to be in action on earth in any generation. The
problem is never with God, who radiates His Spirit constantly and consistently
to every living creature! The only problem for the children of men is that the
Spirit of God, which is constantly being radiated to mankind, has
not been allowed to flow through hearts and minds and bodies of individual men
and women with the result that the Divine Design cannot appear on earth. The Psalms
are praises and prayers to the LORD for a willing individual to receive the
Spirit that is in operation through the entire universe. The words of the
Psalms enable any willing individual to let the Spirit of God to come to focus
within oneself...specifically one’s heart, mind and body...so that the spirit of
God will be in expression on earth. Man is out of position, outside the
spiritual covenant-agreement, outside the garden of a God Who is everywhere. David’s Psalms call readers and hearers to
return to the covenant that is available to be experienced.
Solomon, son of David, is known
for his wisdom and his wealth. He was a practical, “tell-it-like-it-is”
individual who was interested in the practical application of the teachings and
praises (Psalms) that he learned from his earthly father, King David. Solomon’s
wisdom comes to us in the form of the three books generally attributed to him: Proverbs,
Ecclesiastes, and The Song of Solomon.
The approach of Solomon is to let
the radiance from God that is coming to him in Spirit find
expression through him, as an individual, to produce the results of the True
Design on earth. The Proverbs are rich with ways in which Solomon
allowed this to occur in his living of life; Ecclesiastes emphasizes the
importance of allowing the flowing Spirit of God to find expression early in
life before disease and aging take their toll; The Song of
Solomon describes the loving relationship between the Spirit of God and
the human creation of man, male or female, who is the Beloved of the Divine
marriage of Spirit and form on earth.
Let us proceed with the songs and
praises, the teachings and wisdom, produced by father and son some 3,000 years
ago, to experience the application and relevance to each of us in the living of
life on earth today.
The only true purpose of the
books of the Holy Bible is to help individuals move from the fallen state to an
ascended state, a restored state. The state of restoration, which can be proven
in each person’s experience, is to let the invisible spirit of God, which is
moving through everything on earth, move through the human consciousness. As
the spirit of God moving through the human consciousness is expressed in actual
living, the person who allows this to occur knows what is expressed.
It has been recorded that Solomon
is the author of most of the proverbs which we will be considering in detail
throughout the 31 Chapters of the Proverbs. The important question is not who
wrote the proverbs, but rather, is the message of the proverbs true today in
the living of life? Can the proverbs be used to move people from chaos to
harmony? from disagreement to agreement? from discontent to contentment? from
discord to accord? In Roman mythology, the name for Hades, or Hell, was the land
of Dis. Dis
was the name of the underworld. We can consider the underworld as the fallen
world which we have seen with our own eyes and the many distortions of
conditions on earth. We do not have to die in order to see these hellish
conditions. Perhaps we do not have to die to see the heavenly conditions which
can be described by the words in which the prefix, the lower form of the “dis”, has been removed!
The actions created through man,
male and female, can take two completely different forms: we can separate these
two possible worlds into the world of distortion and the world of truth; the
world of disorder and the world of order. We suggest that disorder is the
distortion, and order is the true design from an intelligent Creator. The true
design, the kingdom of heaven is at hand, available to be known on this side of
the grave. It is not in the land of Dis.
King David was the father of Solomon.
King David wrote many psalms in praise of the invisible LORD, who was his God,
and taught others to praise the LORD by opening their hearts to the moving
spirit of God and extending the loving spirit of the LORD to others. Solomon
learned from his father, King David, to let the ever-flowing spirit of the LORD
flow through his heart and mind to produce logical and intelligent thought. It
is important to remember that Solomon was a “son of David”, both physically and
spiritually.
Solomon does not speak of the
LORD or God to the same degree as his father, King David, the psalm-singer.
Instead, Solomon lets the flowing spirit turn his mind with regard to the
people and the conditions of the environment which he centered in the actual
living of his life. The people who were the beneficiaries of the wisdom of Solomon attributed his wisdom, his proverbs, his
parables, his teachings, and his decisions to the visible man and not to the
invisible spirit that was turning his mind.
The people who learned that the proverbs
and wisdom of Solomon could be useful to them in
practical living easily accepted the teachings of King Solomon and they used
the wisdom to bring harmony and prosperity to themselves, their families,
friends and the people with whom they did business or came in contact. If the
spirit of the LORD moving through Solomon has an effect on the people who hear
his proverbs, then the spirit of the LORD is having an influence o
