“Get the animal’s outa here and off my lawn and we’ll look into your fair tale!”
She was walking out the door looking at her feet, bewildered, sad about her brother and the dead animals. For some reason she looked up. Saw what was to create the only smile of the day for the stern men. And, she could not help but smile as well, especially when she saw the direction of their eyes. Buckie, yes, he was there tucked in the saddle as if he belonged, the big guy quietly-systematically devouring the CID’s well-kept lawn. It was a re-run of the sight at the murders.
She came out of the haze as she started to ride off wondering and reflecting back about how the lab team, dispatched to the scene, even before they heard her story. Gayle had not dared to tell the two officers about the murder of young Terror.
As she passed by their window in a valiant effort to get away from the station she over heard the Lawn Manager. She abruptly stopped
“What did you think of the lady’s story? …I mean really, why she didn’t tell us about the young boy who was there, killed dead? Then there is those horses and that poor other gent, suppose some mask man rode in and he and Tonto had a change of venue and became evil!”
“And, those dead horses, well that was something to tell, now was it not?”
“Do you believe her about that cat? However, I did see the thing sitting on the saddle, as if he belonged there. What’s to say if there is something else going on here?”
“Well it was something wasn’t it? I can’t wait to see what Philip the lab rat comes up with after these dudes give him their report, this should be a ‘doosy’, you?”
There was a long pause as the lawn manager thought.
“I just can’t help but feel like we were the ones being interrogated and not Gayle O’Malley!”
“Personally I think that there is something she’s not telling and it is not just that she didn’t disclose the young mans death; she knows something else about those killings that she hasn’t told us yet!” The other CID concluded.

About the Book
The family lore is one thing, but the Smiths are quite another. The two sources of information are miles apart. On the one hand, she cannot get her father to open up the history of the O’Malley’s and tries to find out about the lore by other means. And the other source, the Smiths, are so numerous that she begins to doubt her wisdom in suspecting that a Smith is the answer in the first place. One Smith stands out but he is beyond reproach for all he can see in her is a dichotomy. He is falling in love with her, and, he suspects her of the crimes. The mutually exclusive, contradictory emotions that she sees in him ignite yet another clue. Nevertheless, she can do nothing about it for Smith has put her in house arrest.
Officer Smith learns that the vaunted SAS has taken over the civil case. He feels that it is abnormal enough that he protests, but is subdued when he learns that Gayle is to be his boss. Throughout the investigation, the devious plot on the O’Malley’s tears at the fabric of the entire family so much so that each member must search their own reasons for their individual involvement in the murders.
Gayle narrows her suspects to the family members and close friends. Learning as she goes to trust, to give and take and most of all to follow her six senses. However, the Smiths are lurking in the shadows.
Her suspects surprise her. She finds that she can learn from them, come to grips with her inner-self, understand her calling in life, and perhaps solve the mysteries.
