To David, it seemed forever to arrive on the field of battle. He could see the white puffs of powder smoke billowing from the Confederate line lingering just above the ground. The humid air made the smoke like a fog that would not dissipate until the day would be decided. “ Why does it take so long for officers to make up their minds to give the order to advance,” David wondered to himself as they continued forward in company formation. He has been a Civil War re-enactor for seventeen years and his passion for history has been a part of him since he was a child. Like many re-enactor’s the thought of going back in time lingers on their mind, but he takes this thought to another level, putting a man with his hobby into fighting for his life.
