My Country Sweetheart
Her face is lined with the sorrows of years,
And often her eyes are filled with tears,
yet to me, she’s as happy and gay as of yore
As she stands and waits at our farmhouse door.
Time was when her face was young and gay,
Her hair was black but now ‘tis gray,
But still I love her, each day more and more,
My sweetheart who waits at our farmhouse door.
I’ve traveled all over the face of the earth,
Yet I’m back again to the place of my birth,
To the only sweetheart I can e’er adore,
The one who stand at our farmhouse door.
So, no matter where o’er the earth I might roam,
I’ll always come back to my country home.
For nowhere on earth could I find another,
Who’d e’er take the place of my darling mother?
