Spiritual healing is much more than a purely physical experience or even a mental experience, it is a spiritual experience. By this it is meant that healing is accomplished by finding an inner communication with something far greater than anything else. It is finding our oneness with God, finding ourselves in a spiritual peace, which comes to us with the realization of the Christ, the God within us, the presence and power of God felt and experienced. With that consciousness, the body shows forth perfect and complete health, youth, vitality, and strength - all in accordance with the Omniperfection that is God.
Spiritual healing is the realization of the Spirit of God within, and when that touches us, it awakens us to a new dimension of life, a spiritual dimension. “where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty”: not that the Spirit of the Lord acts as medicine or as surgery, but because the Spirit of the Lord lifts the seeker into a new level of consciousness, the state of consciousness which the Master described as “My kingdom is not of this world”. When we attain that state of consciousness, we will live in a dimension of life above the material one, and have experiences totally unknown at the human level of life.
Jesus gave us a glimpse of this higher dimension of life when he said to the lame man, “Rise, take up thy bed, and walk”. And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed and walked, clearly indicating that God does not have to cure a physical disease, because physical disease is actually only a belief in a power that has no reality, and can be cured by realizing its nothingness. Physical disease is, in fact, unreal, and therefore nothing in reality could hinder this man in spite of what he was experiencing as physical incapacitation. When the man responded, it meant that he was lifted into a new level of consciousness, one in which physical limitations did not operate.
Spiritual healing is based on the premise that sin, disease, and death have no externalized reality or spiritual existence: they have no creator and exist only as illusory beliefs or concepts. The words “real” or “reality” pertain only to that which is spiritual, eternal, immortal, and infinite. Since God is All, only that which is of God is understood to be real or is recognized as reality, and can be said to be permanent. Since reality pertains only to that which is spiritual and is of Spirit - Mind, or God - it must be spiritually understood through an inner awareness. Jesus referred to this as, “having eyes, see ye not? And having ears, hear ye not?” In other words, reality is that which must be seen and heard at the level of the Mind-faculties.
