About the Book

This book of poetry is titled She’s The Well that I Drink From in that this theme is a thread which runs throughout the book. It is a look at the relationship between a man and a woman. This relationship is seen from the author’s perspective—male, and married. As such, this thread covers what the author believes is the best in a relationship of love shared. It also includes expressions of solitude, loneliness, despair, anger, and separation, attempting to leave nothing out. Whether you find it complete in its coverage of the male/female relationship will depend on your own life experiences. You may find yourself, or those close to you in these pages. As said, this theme is only a thread which winds its way through the book. The bulk of the poetry, however, is quite varied in style and content. There is humor, nonsense, garden poetry, veteran recognition, and poems covering a wide variety of life’s experiences. It is probable that you will find familiar territory within the pages, bringing to mind your own history of the man-woman relationship. Too, you will probably relate to most of the other poetry as you have lived in relationship to God, country and just plain old living of life we all experience. I would like to express deep gratitude to those who have encouraged me. Sallie Nixon, a friend and fellow poet, has encouraged me more than any other. The North Carolina Poetry Society and its many talented poets and artists have graciously included me. Eleanor Martin encouraged me more than she can realize. Neighbors, friends, and my fellow members of Bowling Green Presbyterian Church and the teachers and staff of the Clover School District, have given me purpose and courage to write. Writing has opened many a door to friendship for which I am grateful.
