It bothered him a little that on her deathbed Mrs. Trapp had indicated she wanted the boys to be adopted together, but there wasn’t anyway he could have explained to the dying woman that this wasn’t likely to happen. He had one couple take two children of the same family once, but four just wasn’t likely to happen. When the Reverend Curtis had come by a day or two later to take the oldest boy to see his mother for the last time, he’d already sent him for a trial visit with a nice older couple from out of town. After a week he wasn’t back, so the chances looked pretty good for him. Within five days he had placed the other three boys in three different locations. The potential adoptive parents all had impressive backgrounds. Unless he was mistaken, the county home had seen the last of these boys. He felt like he had done them and their mother a big service.

About the Author
The eighth child of a tenant farmer, he grew up in the settings depicted in this, his first novel. He experienced the difficulties of poverty, and the loss of his mother at an early age. He recognized the values she taught were the glue that held his family together, even after her death. He served in the military, married, and became a C.P.A. His wife of nearly fifty years has been legally blind since childhood, and they have raised three children. Their first son was adopted, and their youngest, a daughter, was born with Cerebral Palsy. It was the strength that mothers exhibit in adverse situations that inspired this story, and he has dedicated the book to two of them.
