Patient's Fight Against Cancer

My first day in the Chemotherapy treatment room was depressing. There were seven reclining chairs, with aside attached table for treatment equipment, and a swivel goose­neck television for the patients entertainment during the two and one half, to five hours of treatment required for each patient, depending on their type of cancer and treatment required for each stage of the disease.

As I entered the silent room that had two Registered nurses fluttering around the room in response to the bells ringing on various treatment pumps, letting them know that something needed to be done, with the intravenous pumps. I noticed that the patients were silent, or whispering softly to their relatives who'd come to cheer them.

All of the patients sat around with sad expressions on their faces. Their expressions were of fear, dread, and drained of life, with wrinkles covering their foreheads. I could see they had determined that the Grim Reaper had all of their names on his hit list., and was coming to collect his booty.

My thoughts were I could spend more than six months in this depressing situation? Something had to be done to change their imaginary execution room, to something more positive. A place where cancer patients can come together in a more positive attitude to fight this evil umsympathetic crab that reaches out to infect anyone within reach of its tentacles.

I knew instantly that several things were missing in the minds of those sad people. The missing things were hope, faith, charity, and education. We all have a tendency to fear those things that we don't understand. I had to somehow make my fellow suffering companions understand their affliction, and how they could arm themselves to fight back.

"That's it," I thought. "I'm a writer, and I'll write a book from the patient's viewpoint, explaining all about cancer, and how patients can help themselves. "Why not?" If what I'd say now got their attention that would be a feather in the win category.

"Hello everybody. " I began. "My name is Eula Youngblood. I just had two feet of my ascending colon removed with cancer. This is the third time I've had to fight this evil creature off for trying to steal away my freedom. I will not allow it to take away my will to live. We must all hang together, and fight. We will prevail through it if we fight. "Evil loves darkness, so we must attack the enemy in the dark corners where it lurks. It is difficult for the doctors to find this enemy sometimes; because of the sneaky way it lurks in the shadows of our bodies. So let's hang together, and fight this evil crab on his territory. We can win if we try."
