What if for one day, twenty-four hours, you wake up before daybreak, put on your day clothes, shoes, hat and set out to live one God given day in the past. You have no aches, pains nor worry. No job, no boss to face, no responsibility to answer. A day that is yours and yours only. Twenty-four hours to visit the past. Anywhere, anybody, anytime. It is your choosing and yours alone, no outside input or influence.
Which day would it be? Where would you go? Who would you see? What event would you visit? The horrible day in the 1930’s when the stock market fell and people all over America, yea all around the world, were jumping out windows, taking their own lives? Or perhaps the bombing of Pearl Harbor? The atomic bomb being dropped on Japan? Graduating from high school or college? Getting your first real job? Falling in love, getting engaged, the wedding day, or the day of your firstborn? Which day in history would you wish to re-visit? Bring it to life again and make it just as special as it was before.
It could be a day of seriousness, a day of laughter or solitude, alone with all your thoughts and dreams. It could be a day when you sit down by a cool gentle brook and looked into your hopeful future and thought about the things you wished to become – the world you wanted to change.
Yes the evening when the work was done! Mom and Dad and many of the neighbors would gather on the porch or in the yard. They were sitting calmly in the cool of the day just being good neighbors and friends. Oh! But wait until the stories begin!! One after another, they seem to get bigger, louder, and more real, until your sides were bursting from laughter. Although some would be so horrible in nature until it left you with eyes wide, heart pumping and afraid to walk home in the dark.
From this day in history comes the writings of this book. My wish is that it will spark some memories about your past. Some will be good, some bad, some funny, some sad, but our past should live on through generations to come. Our past brought us to where we are right now.
