Certain lines write themselves and certain books create their own destiny.  Such is the crucible upon which late-night encounters may sometimes save a life.  Drama & Desire is that kind of book.  Composed in letters and journal entries, it describes an affaire du coeur between a young Japanese student and an aging American writer visiting Paris.  Employing sources from the poetic and dramatic traditions of Japan, Peterson creates a multi-layered dreamscape of passion and research in an effort to reconcile the dreamer and memory.

having recently returned to erie to consult with his youth

& having proposed to release the load that has brought him this far

& having rented a room and burning his clothes in the toilet

& having paid his rent by the week, the day, and now the hour

the author cannot cook if  he is not hungry

if the radio plays a slow blues filling up with snow

& says the people who love you are killing you
