His face was still splattered with blood. He made his way to the hall bathroom and began washing up. He stared into the mirror as the water ran in the sink, the sound of the water fading to a whisper. His huge six-foot, five-inch, 270-pound frame slumped over the sink as he listened to the water run. His reddish brown hair was still perfectly combed. His green eyes were bloodshot from lack of sleep. Th e big Irishman . . . Th at’s what his neighbors called him, but never to his face. Th e three neighbors who had ever talked to him, that is. His neighborhood was quiet, a retirement spot for people with money. Most of his neighbors were white headed and didn’t leave their houses except to go to the grocery store or the doctor’s offi ce. It was a safe neighborhood to raise his daughter in, which was why they had moved there. He couldn’t think of anything other than the job he had just done. A million thoughts raced through his head. His everyday thoughts were constantly interrupted by the violent events that had taken place. He could still hear the screams. He could see the mess, and could still see the fear in the eyes of his victim. “No, please, mister. I have two kids and a beautiful wife that I need to be here for. Th ey need me. Please don’t kill me! I’ll make it right; I’ll do whatever it takes!” the man cried out as Colt continued pouring gasoline on his head. Th e family man wasn’t always so cold hearted, and even now it was becoming an uneven fi ght between his good side and his bad. He had a job to do and it wasn’t a choice anymore. Th is was what he’d signed up for, and there was no backing out now! You can’t just walk away from the Mafi a, you can’t just give your two weeks’ notice—it doesn’t work that way. Once you’re in, you’re always in, until you’re dead. Th e water continued running in the sink as he was startled back to reality. “Hi, Daddy!” a little girl’s voice spoke. He turned to see his fi veyear- old girl standing in the doorway with her cup full of fresh apple juice. Her strawberry hair still messy from her midday nap, her big green eyes that always reminded him of his youngest sister. When he turned to see her, it brought a smile to him instantaneously. “Well, hey there, Hanna!” he said as he dried his face and placed the towel on the rack beside the sink. He faced the mirror and carefully checked for any blood that might still be on his face. He then knelt down and took his young daughter in his arms. “You’re such a pretty girl, Daddy loves you so much, and ya know, you’re just what I needed!” He lifted her up in his arms and held her tight as he began walking through the house. He put on a smile as his mind still focused on the horrifi c events of the night before. He tried hard to forget about what he had done, but he couldn’t get it out of his mind. Th at’s the way it was every time for him. He loved how he felt at the very moment he killed someone, but like any addiction, after the high there was always a low. He could feel the energy leaving his body after he was done. . . . “What are you girls gonna to do today, baby?” he asked his little girl as he carried her through the living room to the kitchen where his wife was cooking lunch. “We’re going to the park today, Daddy! Momma says it’s cold, but if we wear a jacket, we can walk on the new track,” his daughter said, her head tilted, eyes opened wide and a smile on her face. “Th at sounds like so much fun, baby! I wish I could go with you guys. I could use some good exercise.” He smiled as he made his way over to his wife and kissed her on the back of the head. “Hey, honey,” he said as he placed his hand in the small of her back.

About the Book
This book is the first in this series. It introduces the reader to a killer. You will hate the killer and then come to love him. And there's a hero, he's modest and an all around good guy, but his morals will be tested time and time again, as he faces the mind of a criminal. We begin our story in Dallas Texas . Colt "the killer" lives a double life. He wants so badly to be a nine-to-five family man. But he has an obligation to the Mob. The hero in our story, Detective Rick Wise, doesn't have a clue what he's getting himself into. But rest assured, he’ll fight tooth and nail before he lets a killer go free. Switchback grabs a hold of the reader and makes them hate and then fall in love with a killer. The title is Switchback and there is a reason for it. With the twists and turns, you'll be captivated and can't wait for the answers to be unveiled. But be forewarned, there are some pretty gruesome scenes in this novel that may not be suitable for all readers. There is a method to the madness and you'll see how it plays together in the end.
About the Author
Will Pettijohn began writing in 2007 after an event changed his life forever. A small town boy from Snyder, Texas; he attended Midwestern State University and studied Agricultural Science and business. After graduating Midwestern State University, Pettijohn continued his education to achieve his Engineering degree. He currently consults for petroleum companies and enjoys writing as a relief of the day to day pressures. He began working at the age of fourteen in the Oil & Gas industry. Pettijohn comes from a long line of petroleum professionals and enjoys the industry very much. A single father, he raised his children with their future in mind and has watched them flourish into the young men that they are today and he is proud of them and their accomplishments. Switchback was the beginning of the series where the protagonist 'Rick Wise' must prevent a killer from getting away with murder and insure that he gets what's coming to him. Colt is the main character in the series that has an undying love for his family and his career as well. Pettijohn's ability to provide the reader with a story that could be true in today's society is what readers want and enjoy. After penning 'Switchback' Pettijohn wrote part two of the series 'The Usher' and continues the saga of Wise and Colt. Colt finds himself in a tangled web of deceit and Wise is dragged through yet another cat and mouse exchange with the antagonistic FBI. Pettijohn released a nonfiction book in April 2012 called Oil & Gas handbook. This book offers a brief, yet detailed synopsis of the drilling of an oil or gas well in the United States. It opens the reader’s eyes to the processes from lease acquisition to the final procedures of drilling the well. As carbon fuels are in more demand, the need for drilling and being self-sufficient are at an all-time high. Pettijohn believes that the Unites States should stop importing foreign oil and depend more upon the natural resources in our own country. Pettijohn is very thankful to all of his readers and fans for giving him the opportunity to provide them with a story created in his mind and put it onto paper for the world to see.
