In "Cats Keep Out" Sam and his friends Rudie and Boots spend most of their time running, chasing squirrels and just being dogs until one day they decide to build their own clubhouse where they won't be bothered by the neighborhood cat, Hannibal. It is through the process of creating their own private space that they learn the valuable lesson of empathy, inclusion and that being different is no reason to leave somone out - learning to accept our differences can be fun.

About the Author
Vicki Westling taught reading and English at the elementary, secondary and college level. She is an avid reader and writer. Her dog Sam is her inspiration for the "Sam and Friends" series of children's books. She lives with her husband Richard and Sam in a small town on the banks of Lake Erie in western New York state.
