He had stumbled into middle age like he had forgotten something. Like most people he supposed, he had succeeded by default. He was generally disinterested in his own life but that fact wasn't of any particular concern. At one time, years before, he had committed spiritual suicide practically every day of the week but that was a long time ago. He may have considered the real thing then but that would have required a commitment he was never prepared to provide. With all ambition and all angst, real or imagined, now forgotten, he was generally content. He was happy. With retirement beckoning to him like a summer holiday, he sometimes imagined himself in school again, waiting for rescue from responsibility.

About the Book
"These Memories Clear" is a collection of forty short stories, of various lengths, genres and subject matter. Many of the stories in the collection are drawn from childhood memories that may or may not be actual recollections. From one page observations to much longer pieces like "Close Enough to Miss" and "The Letter Seven", it is hoped that this collection is diverse enough to attract the discriminating reader. Well, at least some of them anyway.
About the Author
With his fifth book for AuthorHouse, two other collections of short stories, namely "Casting Shadows" and "Parts of A Past", a novel called "Gone and Back", and a collection of entertainments entitled "The Smart Aleck Chronicles" being the others,. Mike Robertson continues to pursue his literary ambitions past the edge of middle age with strangely predictable optimism. Tittering on the edge of retirement, he is hopeful that his collection of short stories will provide him with the will to continue writing, particularly when he has nothing better to do.
