The Echo of Footsteps

When Megan Garrison left the studio that afternoon, she was desperate to find out who had been parking their car in her space all day; and this wasn't the first time she'd discovered the car there.
She took one of the owners outside with her to write down the license number of the car if it was still there.
They waked around to the back of the car where Megan copied down the tag number.  She walked back around on the right side of the car to see what else was inside besides a child's car seat which Rob had told her about earlier.  She and Rob were glancing in the car as she moved so she could see everything inside.   The car was empty except for the car seat. Just as she moved in closer the toe of her shoe kicked something on the ground.  She looked down to see a set of keys lying just underneath the passenger door there on the pavement. She bent over to pick them up and she saw a woman's shoe lying there just underneath the car.  She stooped down for a closer look then noticed the pool of blood on the pavement there.  She moved in closer to look underneath the car, then quickly stood up again, her mouth falling open in complete shock.  She let out an involuntary squeal as the keys fell from her nerveless fingers, clattering loudly against the pavement. "Rob," she cried hollowly.  "There's a woman under the car!" "What?"   He threw down the cigarette he had just lit to run over to Megan. He bent down also looking carefully underneath the car then swiftly stood back up.  "We've got to call the police, Megan, I think she's dead!" Megan did not stand there immobilized for another second; instead she ran on wooden legs as she followed Rob back inside the Sports bar. Rob quickly told April to call the police. Megan's legs gave out from under her; weakly she sat down at the first table then covered her face with trembling hands. She could not believe that a woman had been killed right outside her dance studio on Main Street in Hamlet while her car was parked in Megan's private space.
