About the Book

"Mildred's Book Store" sounded like a catchy name for my collection of book titles and authors. Mildred, to me, seemed like a good name for an entrepreneur of a small business like an independent bookstore. As in any such retail outlet, there are different categories of books to appeal to any reader. As I began organizing my collection, I was able to arrange them in eight general categories, including a catch-all "Potpourri" section. Since they are only titles and not whole books, I hope that the reader finds favorites in all eight sections. I also hope that this will spur an interest in some of these various fields that leads to purchases of books in those fields. If, by having my collection published, it both entertains and creates interest in new areas of life, I will be completely satisfied.

About the Author

Mike Nystrom, a lifelong Oregonian, has always had a fascination for puns. While serving in the US Air Force he heard other servicemen coin fictitious book titles; though these titles were off-color and crude, the idea for clean titles and authors was planted in Mike's mind. Having literary abilities didn't hurt, either. After he completed military service in 1972, Mike enrolled at a Bible school in Portland, where his writing skills were developed through his many Journalism classes and the term papers he wrote in other classes. Mike was employed with a family-owned retail dairy store for 14 years; during this time he was given both the inspiration and opportunity to develop his propensity for writing book titles and authors. After that, nothing stopped Mike from developing this somewhat unique art. After he married Jocelyn Benz in 1989, she encouraged Mike in two important ways: she bought a notebook so he could compile his thousands of titles in an organized manner; then she persuaded him to take some of the 'funnier' book titles and have them published. So Jocelyn gets the credit for making it possible for anybody to read and, we hope, enjoy these book titles and authors.
