My Line in the Sand Empowering People Through Restrained Government

Introduction At some point, every man must stand and fight for what he cherishes. He can no longer retreat, but must prevail or lose everything he holds dear. This is his “Line in the Sand,” a point where he declares to his foe, “thus far and no farther.” Ronald Reagan stated, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.” There was a time when I couldn't comprehend the possibility that my country, The United States of America, the greatest, most moral, prosperous, charitable, and powerful country the world has ever known, and the only country ever dedicated to securing the Liberty of its people could be destroyed within a span of a single generation. I see how very wrong I was. There is no external foe able to craft our defeat. Our foe is from within. Our elected representatives no longer understand the necessity of a severely limited federal government. They've instituted policies which continually expand federal influence and power far beyond any legitimate constitutional authority. They now seek to control and subdue the people whose rights they're charged with protecting. Unless they're stopped, our country will cease to exist. My children and grandchildren, our posterity, will never know freedom and will live in a society ruled by a privileged class of elite parasites. I cannot accept this scenario. I love this country and understand that its greatness is directly derived from an unrestrained people living in a safe, secure, and sovereign nation. History has proven beyond any doubt that the unleashed potential of free men elevates all aspects of society infinitely above any bureaucratically controlled order. We've been bequeathed with the solution, the greatest force for freedom ever conceived by man, unique in the world --the United States Constitution. It limits the power of the federal government to the national duties required to maintain a safe and sovereign nation; but more importantly, it prohibits any federal control or influence over the people's lives. It establishes a uniquely free nation. We have allowed those in government to ignore every aspect of the Constitution they find inconvenient. They've come to believe that they are omnipotent, the solution, rather than acknowledging that every problem plaguing our nation is the direct result of their unconstitutional impositions. The decision makers today concur with Obama's message, “We Are The Ones We've Been Waiting For.” I say thus far and no farther. I will no longer allow my government to destroy my country and force my heirs to live in servitude. I choose to bestow upon our posterity the same liberty which was conferred to me. I will fight to uphold the hallowed, time-tested constitutional provisions protecting liberty; otherwise, the unimaginable will occur, and our country will cease to exist. We have no choice. About the Book
This book strives to explain how a free people are more than able to provide for their own needs infinitely better than any conceivable government program. Within its pages I unveil my “One-Eight, One-Nine” plan to Empower People through Restrained Government. It's a two part plan which addresses both the function and finance of the federal government by insisting upon adherence to existing Constitutional provisions. Government leaders fear it. “One-Eight” deals with function. It refers to Article 1 Section 8 of the Constitution which specifically enumerates the powers authorized to be performed by congress. The plan seeks to awaken the people of the United States to the enormous benefits to society derived from our extremely limited Constitutional government, and insist that the federal government adhere to and honor its specific enumerated duties. We accomplish this task by educating ourselves and monitoring those we elect to office to ensure they follow the Constitution. Those which don't must be voted out. “One-Nine” deals with financing. It refers to Article 1 Section 9 which specifically states that money may only be drawn from the federal treasury to pay for enumerated Constitutional functions. All spending outside this authority is unconstitutional. Implementing the Constitutional provisions of “One-Eight, One-Nine” is achieved through my “Negative Baseline” program. Current policy automatically increases annual spending on non-Constitutional programs through baseline budgeting. My “Negative Baseline” instead reduces this spending causing all non-Constitutional spending to simply fade away. Contrary to popular belief, I discuss how the reductions will be relatively painless. Unneeded federal employees, as well as those dependant on the federal government, will be enthusiastically absorbed by a revitalized free market. The only way to solve our nation's problems is through an educated electorate desiring to replace self serving politicians with those wishing to truly secure our liberty.
About the Author
Peter Konetchy is a Constitutionalist who understands that the greatness of our country is derived from the unleashed potential of a free people. Konetchy contends that every domestic problem facing our nation today is directly related to the federal government overstepping its authority and imposing its will upon the people. The only solution is to rein federal power and influence back to its constitutional authority, and to allow the people, through their own endeavor, the free market, voluntary charity, or lastly the states, to satisfy the needs of society. Konetchy is running for Michigan's 2012 U.S. Senate seat. A victory will allow him to work with other constitutional representatives to scale the power of the federal government back to its authorized duties.
