About the Author
Tom Melvin spent his first twenty-nine years growing up in Dorchester, Massachusetts. He attended St. Peter’s elementary school followed by the long closed, High School of Commerce. He learned the meaning of a dollar by hustling a buck working at any job that would pay him; newsboy, tomato factory worker, cutting weeds around the oil tanks on Chelsea Creek, steam pressing clothes in the heat of the summer, and washing cars in the dead of winter. As he matured so did the danger in his job choices; roofer, Plate Boy in the Herald Traveler pressroom, deckhand on a tug boat and, finally, volunteering as a U.S. Paratrooper 1953. After graduating from the school of “Hard Knocks” Tom’s fate took a turn when he graduated from Boston University with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He continued with his education and received a MS in Engineering from Northeastern University. In the early 1990’s he received a CAS from Harvard University’s School of Education and went on to finish his Doctorate degree from Nova University in 1996. Tom’s career focused mostly on the construction industry. He was a long time Capital Project Manager at Harvard University completing over 100 projects during his years at Harvard. He also taught Facilities Management at Wentworth Institute of Technology. He wrote Practical Psychology in Construction Management which was published by Van Nostrand Reinhold in 1979. Danny’s Tavern is his first novel. Tom lives in Stoughton, Massachusetts with his Black Lab, Jenny.
