Out of the Night Sky

Brian Tenpenny felt the house shake. The weird thing about it was, there was no sound. He wondered if he was having a bad dream when suddenly his bedroom vanished and he was lying flat on his back in the damp grass, in the cold darkness. Fear slowly crept over him and he crouched down, peering into a swirling mist when all at once a willowy, ill-shaped figure appeared directly in front of him. Startled, Brian's mind shouted, "Run! Hurry! Before it's too late!" But, he couldn't move. Gasping for air, he suddenly realized that the grotesque figure mirrored his shock and desperation. Before Brian could assess his next move, a brilliant stream of white light came barreling from the night sky, roaring like a massive tornado. He tried to run but a heavy weight pinned him to the ground. He gasped, his arms flailing. He started at the sound of a loud, clamoring thud and his eyes flew open. He found himself tangled in blankets on his bedroom floor near the open window, the long curtains whispering remnants of the nightmare across his forehead. A sick feeling of impending doom hovered like humidity in the air. He peered out the window just as, what appeared to be a shooting star, split in the darkness. He shuddered and cold sweat washed over him. He rolled tightly into his blankets, knowing that something beyond the ordinary had taken place in more than just his dream.
