The Walker family resided in the left front apartment. They were very special. Mrs. Walker was the only sensible one among them, when she was sober. She worked as a waitress and managed to pull herself together enough most mornings to go to work. Her husband drove a taxi as did their son, Billy. Billy did not work regularly. He experienced periodic seizures and had spent time on several occasions at the state hospital in Milledgeville. The three of them were alcoholics, drunk most every night and often came home from work in that manner and many times had to be helped up that long staircase. They frequently begged food and money from the other tenants since most of their earnings were spent drinking.

About the Book
You would think that any change from our life in Phenix City, Alabama would be an improvement. That was entirely too much to hope for. Any Expressions of individual desires had always been suppressed because of the continual domination by our parents. My brothers and I had lived in a very oppressive atmosphere most of our lives. The only thing we could do was dream and that was severely restricted by being subjected to control of every aspect of our lives. At times being imprisoned would have been a blessing. at least we would have had some semblance of positive organize, in knowing what to expect from one day to the next.
About the Author
A lifetime of unique experiences has well qualified the author to share his beliefs. Ed chose to share stories from his youth in "The Blessed and The Damned". In "Virginia's Grace" the author has endeavored to provide encouragement to others by sharing his faith in the positive outcomes from endurance and perseverance through life's experiences.
