Personal Discipleship

The term discipleship comes from the word disciple. What is discipleship? Who is a disciple? These are two key questions we must answer if we want to understand personal discipleship. Discipleship is adherence to the Master and Lord’s faith. Discipleship has to do with two things: following Christ and making disciples. Discipleship happens when a person believe Jesus Christ for their Salvation and continue to grow to be like him daily. A disciple on the other hand is a devoted person to the Lord Jesus Christ, an adherent or follower of the Lord’s faith. The Origin of modern disciples is the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord Jesus Christ had disciples in his ministry and apostleship. The Lord Jesus Christ had twelve disciples and then the seventy disciples and later on his ministry grew and increased into multitude of disciples. When we talk about disciples and discipleship we do not limit it to the twelve disciples of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ had multitude of disciples and secret disciples. Not all disciples of Jesus Christ were publicly known like the twelve disciples and the seventy disciples. Firstly: There were many disciples who followed Jesus Christ in the book of Luke. Secondly: there were multitudes of disciples in the book of Acts under the Holy Spirit and the apostles. The apostles who were disciples later on had multitudes of disciples themselves. After the Holy Spirit came and the word of God was preached and taught, many people became the disciples of the Lord. And thirdly: previously Acts chapter one show that there were hundred and twenty disciples beyond the twelve disciples. Personal discipleship is for today. Personal discipleship is of God. The Holy Spirit wants you to be a disciple and make other people disciples of the Lord. To be a disciple you need to have the following: salvation, the Holy Spirit, the anointing, devotions, witnessing, local church and pastoral ministry. Personal discipleship is new life of total commitment to the Lord. Also like Jesus Christ brought to us two things: apostleship and discipleship, you too may be able to do these two things in your lifetime. Notice: Discipleship is to find and follow the Lord, while Apostleship is sending away for the gospel and the work of the Lord.
