SECTION C: SEXUAL PREFERENCE, SEXUAL ORIENTATION AND SEXUAL DISORIENTATION
The terms Sexual Preference and Sexual Orientation have respectively been used – correctly and erroneously, to refer to the gender towards which a person is emotionally, romantically or sexually attracted. Terms used to qualify Sexual Preference include heterosexuality (attraction to persons of the opposite sex), homosexuality (attraction to persons of the same sex) and bisexuality (attraction to persons of both sexes).
The use of the term Sexual Preference implies that individuals have a choice in the determination of their sexual inclinations. It emphasizes the ultimate responsibility of the individual in choosing to either remain within the nature-assigned heterosexual feature of human beings or to incline himself/herself in the direction of any other abnormal sexual behaviour. The term carries with it the inference that sexual preference, being a choice, is also reversible.
On the contrary, the use of the term Sexual Orientation implies that human beings are born heterosexual, homosexual or bisexual. This implication is grossly misleading and forms the basis for the current negative attitude of some persons/groups against what is the obvious design of Nature, as well as against religious beliefs that affirm and uphold this view.
The word ‘orientation’ generally refers to the direction in which someone’s thoughts or tendencies are inclined. With regard to issues of life, there is a correct and an incorrect direction in which a person’s opinion, tendencies, desires, et cetera, may be inclined. Therefore, based on natural order, commonsense and life values, inclinations can readily be discerned as correctly oriented or incorrectly oriented (disoriented).
With respect to human sexuality, the very design and structure of the male and female sexual organs reveal clearly, the purpose and complementary nature of human sexuality. Human sexual orientation/inclination is therefore conclusively heterosexual by default. Usage of the term - Sexual Orientation, ought therefore to point to heterosexuality only and not a mixture of heterosexuality, homosexuality, bisexuality and goodness knows what next. Exceptions could be made where the user of the term is a normal human being who has been excusably and previously deceived on this issue in the past or where he/she is a compromised human being (a gaylien) who is referring to the sexual nature of fellow gayliens.
All abnormal sexual inclinations are signs of human sexuality in disorientation (Sexual Disorientation). These inclinations are alien to the physiology of the human being and purpose of human sexuality and include the following:
1. Homosexuality – As earlier stated, homosexuality describes the unnatural preference of sexual intimacy with someone of the same sex. Persons affected in this manner are usually referred to as gay (male and female), or lesbian (female only). Homosexually disoriented persons who are also attracted to the opposite sex are usually referred to as bisexual.
2. Bestiality – This term describes the unnatural preference by affected persons of sexual intimacy with other animal species rather than humans.
Persons challenged by any of these conditions seriously require rehabilitation to return to normalcy.
SECTION D: HOMOSEXUALITY
1. INTRODUCTION
Homosexuality is without doubt, human sexuality in disorientation. It is a highly anti-social behavior because it plays no part in the establishment of any human society. In fact, the very acceptance as well as the promotion and practice of homosexuality, is an attack on the foundation of society (the family unit) with the potential to destroy it.
When the heterosexual nature of man is repeatedly abused through the choice to engage in abnormal sexual activities, it ultimately becomes disfigured (warped). This warping of the human heterosexual orientation as observed in certain individuals is facilitated largely by increased secularism, hedonistic beliefs, the erosion of sexual values, as well as other factors.
During the stage of puberty, the sexuality of adolescents (like every other aspect of their physical, mental and spiritual faculties), can be seen to be in the formative stages, and requires adequate moral atmosphere and guidance to develop properly. Immoral sexual activity or deviant sexual behavior engaged in and sustained during these formative years, will eventually set (concretize), becoming second nature and proving very difficult (though not impossible) to overcome when change is desired.
Though affected persons may, due to certain factors, have no power to prevent same sex attractions, it is within their power to choose how to respond to them. Homosexuality is not genetic. It is the product of a lot of factors, chief of which remains the choices most persons involved in it often make at an early stage in their adolescent lives. BEWARE!
2. FACTORS THAT INFLUENCE HOMOSEXUALITY INITIATION
Factors such as the following have been known to contribute to and influence the initiation of homosexuality:
a. Absence of Adequate Family Environment (refers to the extent of parental emotional vacuum experienced by a child while growing up).
b. Gender Misidentification (involving the wrong identification by a child with either masculinity or femininity while growing up).
c. Negative Role Modeling (by popular persons who mislead vulnerable children to see homosexuality as a desirable or perhaps preferable sexual identity).
d. Society/Government Acceptance of Homosexuality (emboldens children to see homosexuality as a normal and acceptable behaviour).
e. Low Self-Esteem (the state of ‘feeling different’ or inferior resulting from a bruised self-image acquired through negative/traumatic encounters with peers, may provoke a misguided quest for ‘equalization’ through homosexual intimacy).
f. Experimentation and Curiosity (about sex and sexuality);
g. Same Sex Proximity and Privacy (especially in boarding school dormitories);
h. Sexual Abuse (of Juniors by Seniors in schools); and
i. Psychological Trauma (involving rape or emotional/mental abuse)
3. EXAMPLES OF COMMON AVENUES OF INITIATION INTO HOMOSEXUALITY
Common Ways Through Which Adolescents Are Initiated Into Homosexuality Are As Follows:
a. Senior on Junior Sexual Abuse (involving high school students in the privacy of boarding houses, especially where both groups are resident in the same dormitory block):
