About the Author
Derrick Harcourt currently lives in Italy managing improvement projects for a reputable pharmaceutical company. He grew up in a patriotic, military household. His mother and father were in the Navy. His uncles, aunts, grandparents and cousins represent every branch of the military as well. As a result, his childhood had him living in many states throughout the US: Ohio, Hawaii, California, Georgia, Virginia, New York, New Mexico, Texas, and North Carolina. Carrying on his family legacy, less than one month after graduating high school in Fort Stockton, Texas in 1998, he joined the US Army. He served in the 82nd Airborne until October of 2002. He married while in the military at age 21. By the time he was 25, and after completing a 42 page perception based thesis, he earned a Criminology degree, Cum Laude, from a private Baptist college in North Carolina (Mount Olive College). He and his wife had their first daughter Kayla in 2003, second daughter Emma in 2005, and son Rocket in 2009!!! His three children have been his life’s inspiration and they will continue to stimulate and motivate his poetry, stories, songs, and art. “If there is one thing I have learned throughout my travels and constant recalibration and adaptation; the most important thing in life… family. Family is not just defined by your God given blood relatives, but also the family God has chosen for you along your life adventure. An ever growing tree, stable and strong.”
