About the Book

“Get to know yourself: A training package for health promoters, health educators, community health workers and peer educators promoting sexual health among young people promoting sexual health among young people” consists of two part, Part one is a book entitled “Get to know yourself: A sexual health guide for young people” and Part Two a handbook entitled “Get to know yourself: A handbook for health promoters and peer educators facilitating sexual health programmes among young people”. The package was developed to assist under resourced communities and countries in accessing sexual health information that will have a positive impact on the lives of young people. This training package can also be used by health professionals and other professionals to facilitate sexual health workshops in schools, youth organisations or clubs, puberty rites or initiations, and religious organisations.


About the Author

Professor Thelmah Xavela Maluleke is a Chief Research Specialist in the Population Health, Health Systems and Innovation programme at the Human Sciences Research Council, South Africa. She received her PhD from the University of South Africa (UNISA) in 2001. She has been an NRF rated researcher since 2009. Her research work is mainly on sexual health, health promotion, gender and indigenous knowledge systems. She has worked in academic institutions as a lecturer, senior lecturer, researcher, Head of Department: Public Health, Research Associate Professor and Research Champion: Faculty of Health Sciences. She has successfully promoted and supervised doctoral thesis and masters dissertations respectively. She serves as an expert reviewer for a number of journals. She has authored and co-authored articles and books. She is a member of a number professional, academic and community associations and organisations. She has received several awards for academic development and funding for research projects.
