The Journey of a Broken Heart Page 1 Synopsis Sally is a young girl of eleven years old growing up in West Virginia who helps care for her sick Grandma-ma. Grandma-ma was dealing with stomach cancer; Sally has a special bond with her. While caring for her Grandma-ma Sally is attacked by her Grand poppa, as well as having a dad with a violent temper. Years of watching fights between her parents Sally wonders “Is this, what life is all about, or is there something better?” She soon finds out, but it isn’t the life young girl’s dream of having when they grow up. Sally’s parents Jeff and Joyce are members of a C.B. Radio Club where she meets two young men, Phillip and Joey. They visit almost every day sitting for hours talking with Jeff as well as talking on the C.B. Radio. Sally and Phillip developed feelings for each other and just as they started sneaking to seeing each other, he broke her heart by marrying another girl. That marriage didn’t last and he found himself begging Sally’s forgiveness. Joey also had feelings for Sally but wouldn’t act on them because he knew Sally loved Phillip and he knew Phillip would end up hurting her over and over, all he could do was tell her he would always be there for her. So Joey stayed in the background waiting for his chance. Things took a drastic change for Sally when Uncle Bear came in for a visit. This is where The Journey of a Broken Heart begins. Sally’s faith is all she has to hold on to, to keep her from losing her mind. Uncle Bears visit ends with him taking advantage of and raping Sally after taking her to the hospital for x-rays of her foot and having a cast placed on the broken ankle. He controlled her with fear, with her dad’s threat of being placed in a girl’s home if she or any of her sisters ever did anything wrong. That is what made her do as she was told. Uncle Bear convinced her he would make sure Jeff believed it was all her fault. He would say Sally came on to him while he was driving and he couldn’t stop her. And Jeff needed to do something to control his daughter. The bad part is Sally knew her dad would believe Uncle Bear and she would never see her family again. Sally felt she had no choice but leave home at the age of seventeen and move to North Carolina to live with him. Once she got settled in, Sally got a job in a sewing factory for a while. Then she had a job waiting tables in a restaurant while going to cosmetology school. After graduation Sally was offered a job in a beauty salon. Years of going through life with no feelings and being numb from the hurt and pain of the mental and sexual abuse Sally found it difficult at first to interact with people other than on a professional level. Some time passed as she let her guard down and a client talked her into going to a dance club with her. The Club is where Sally meets and falls in love with Paul. The man Sally believes to be her Knight in Shining Armor who would save her from the abuse of living with Uncle Bear. Would he be the one or only add to the pain? The heart break only continued after the marriage to Paul. After several months Sally called the marriage quits after finding out some things about Paul that made Sally feel the marriage was based on a lie. And that is not what a marriage is supposed to be about. Sally went back to West Virginia for a while to try and get her life back and she started dating Joey. Sally got news of her husband’s illness and he wanted her to come back home. She still loved him and no matter what she should not turn her back on him when he was sick. So she made the trip back to North Carolina. To Sally’s surprise it was just another way to hurt her. Sally was losing the battle of life and her faith. Going to clubs and drinking her life away became an every night way of life she didn’t care about herself or her life anymore. Luckily through a mutual friend and Gods guidance Sally meets Richard. He would be the one that helps heal the wounds of a broken heart. A year after their wedding, would the birth of their first child lead to happiness or more heartache? Would their love be enough? The journey will continue on regardless of what life throws at them.
