On a night so true, so pure, so sweet A night when all is calm and still And Moon rides high and bright and full Cloudless, white, and bright, and full; The Fire Dragon comes. He comes. The Fire Dragon comes. The circle of this placid lake No whisper breeze, disturbance fled This fire compressed to embers red To furnaced coals in fervent bed; Calls Dragon hot. To Fire Dragon hot and red. For time beyond the chrono count Measured moonlit progress crossed My offspring each in crook of arm One each side and held within my arms, We tracked moon's progress, fire burned. It started slow, as fires go The kindling seeming loathe to flame Mayhap 'twas damp - tho' slender split – Damply cursed reluctant flame Until it blossomed full refrain. Flambé past the kindling short Seasoned maple in the sun Flickered snake-mouthed tongues of flame Red and blue near-silent forkèd flame The crimson coals gave promise sure. "Oh, Father! When will Dragon come?" From time 'yond mind, in days of yore With children twain then held on lap They both were nestled gently on my lap Th'impatient query thus was put to me. "Fires must burn down," said I, "To fervent heat of red and blue To coals that shimmer, gleam, and glow Blasted heat where none can go But Dragon; breath flamed all aglow."

About the Book
So when you look into a big fire burning everything down to coals, what do you see? Are there fire dragons in there as they were for me that wonderful night beside the lake? From where do they come, and with whom do they silently commune?
About the Author
Kenneth David Brubacher was born into a large family of sort in Mennonites in Elmira, Ontario, through no fault of his own. He was encouraged to make an attempt at becoming a normal human being, but clearly, he’s had limited success. To the surprise of nearly everyone, he graduated from secondary school in 1970. From there, he traveled the world extensively, turning his hand to many kinds of jobs and eventually returned to Elmira, having accomplished very little. He got to work as a millwright, but it was soon evident that he was a “millwrong.” After being mercifully fired from that job, he went trucking and almost immediately distinguished himself (summa cum laude with Oak Leaf Cluster and Silver Star) by destroying the truck.
