"I've asked Officer Scott to be here." Todd quietly listened to what Stella Burns was saying, "The position of the Department is clear. Mr. Shae, you need to leave now!" Instead, Todd walked toward the sleeping child in the hospital bed. Stella gazed briefly at the Police Officer as she added, "There will be a hearing in a few days... it's in your best interest to be there. Now back away from the child!" Ashley woke as she loudly cried. Officer Scott took a few steps toward Todd... as he handed him an envelope, "Mr. Shea, let me be clear. I am directing you to leave this room… before this gets difficult." Todd glanced at Ashley as he abruptly turned and left the room. Once in the hallway, Todd leaned against the hospital wall as he slid into a fetal position and began to cry. A few days later, Todd stood in a white marble hallway. He was dressed in a dark suit with a solid blue tie. Todd held a cup of coffee as he anxiously looked at his watch. He felt confident that the impending proceeding would be closed once the Judge had heard his explanation of the unfortunate events. Stella and Attorney Joan King, approached Todd as he stood alone in the marble hallway. Joan King was sixty two, with an long face and curly brown hair. She had piercing blue eyes.

That’s My Girl is a narrative story and it is based on the experiences of it’s author Roger Slagle, MFA MSW while working as a Clinical Social Worker for 38 years in Alaska, Oregon and California. All Characters and Narratives presented in the work are strictly a result of his imagination as the Author/Screenwriter. Roger Slagle, MFA MSW is an award winning feature film Director, Producer and Screenwriter. He is a Graduate of the professionals Program in Screenwriting at UCLA School of Film and Television. He also holds a Masters Degree in Social Work from California State University Sacramento and has held a Clinical License in Social Work sense 1984 to current. Roger Slagle has worked in Child Protective Service Agencies, Psychiatric inpatient units, Group Homes, Schools and Northern California State Prisons (CDC R) as a Psychiatric Social Worker II. Roger has also worked in the Native villages and clinics of Northwestern Alaska. He is the Author of Up River, A journey to Alaska without getting cold (Author House 2021)
