About the Author

John Steven Fressle, known as Steve or Fress, was born in 1948 in Chicago, Illinois, grew up in Gary, Indiana, and spent his married life in Hobart, Indiana. He went to Lew Wallace High School and then to Indiana University where he was introduced to the game of rugby. He had a lifetime devotion to the game and played for 20+ years. He played for IU from 1970-1973. He was one of the original team members of the Gary Rugby Football Club and Northwest Indiana RFC from 1973-1993. During that time he was captain 5 times, president twice, and won the William Web Ellis award 4 times. Through his unbelievable memory of events and serendipitous knowledge, he brought forth an excitement in the plethora of stories he told. Often, people told him to write down these colorful memories and he was also encouraged to do so by his family. The names in this book have been changed to protect the “innocent” but be assured that they all grew into accomplished and competent family men.
