About the Book

Andrew Fitzpatrick 671396 Insanity? Even to Newgate that word meant as much to Newgate as butter was to bread. As DCI of Dalgathern Murder Squad who’d thought he’d seen it all, nothing could prepare neither the seasoned detective nor his colleagues as the first of fourteen serial killings appeared as sure as the dread that followed each time the full moon ruled the heavens above Dalgathern. Seven newlywed brides are brutalised then murdered as they lie beside the bludgeoned bodies of their still warm husbands. Humiliated, brutalised, tortured, then murdered, and all found with pages from The Book of Revelations stuffed into their mouths post mortem. After the first died by the hand of this madman the media dubbed The Cruel Messiah, Newgate pledges his word that twenty-three-year-old newlywed Suzanne McGilvrey’s rapist and murderer would answer for his crime. Perhaps, a promise Newgate could never honour as all leads run dry and the streets are unwilling to surrender their secrets. Then, Newgate is summoned to a retirement home for the elderly and the boastful words of a dying man who claims to be none other than The Cruel Messiah and someone who’s more than willing to talk. Unconvinced, Newgate travels to the retirement home Spartan Heights to interview a madman who seems to know too much about each crime scene and each of the female victims torturous deaths. Too good to be true? Perhaps, but as the interview commences Newgate isn’t as sure as he is seated next to a madman, but a cunning serial killer with a big mouth and nothing to lose. Newgate is soon convinced the words spoken by this madman are truly the words of a serial killer and the words of The Cruel Messiah but as the murders continue Newgate wonders if the greatest of questions might actually lie closer to home.
