Currently serving as the Principal and Managing Director at the New England Center for Family Business Excellence (NECFBE), Dr. Matthew Kerzner works with clients to develop strategic plans that address both the business and family dynamics to ensure successful succession plans and long-term prosperity. This vision would not be possible if Dr. Kerzner did not undergo his own personal journey of Imposter Syndrome and develop an alter ego to fully understand that he earned his incredible accomplishments. An individual’s goals, values, and skills needed to perform in a role successfully make up the ‘bones’ of an alter ego. The purpose of the alter ego is to overcome Imposter Syndrome and bridge the gap between the person we are now and the person we want to grow into. Perhaps the part that makes the alter ego so special is that it creates space between who we are and who we are performing as. So, when the alter ego fails, we do not fail with it. We analyze, observe, annotate, make changes, and then implement those changes for success on the next go around, and we may repeat this process time and time again. As individuals explore methods of behavior that work for them, it is important that they stay rooted in their personal, core values and beliefs. They are not only their compass as they continue forward in life; they are anchors of the alter ego. The use of alter egos can profoundly enhance an individual’s confidence by tapping into one’s imagination to foster personal development. With over 30 years of experience, Dr. Kerzner has dedicated his career to helping family-owned and closely held businesses navigate the complexities of succession planning, financial stability, sustainability, and human performance management. Currently serving as the Principal and Managing Director at the New England Center for Family Business Excellence (NECFBE), Dr. Kerzner works with clients to develop strategic plans that address both the business and family dynamics to ensure successful succession plans and long-term prosperity. Dr. Kerzner’s approach emphasizes organizational health through business development, operational efficiency, and people development. Services offered at NECFBE include Strategic Human Resource Consulting, Family Business Advising, Conflict Resolution & Relational Mediation, Leadership Development & Executive Coaching and Board Development. Before founding NECFBE, Dr. Kerzner was a Managing Director at Eisner Amper Advisory LLC, where he led strategic human resource services. He holds a Ph.D. in Business Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and multiple degrees in Industrial-Organizational Psychology and Labor Relations from The University of New Haven and Nichols College. He resides in North Haven, Connecticut, with his wife and two daughters.
