About the Book

From the time the eight-year-old Mike Fisher sees World War II bombers practicing night bombing runs he knows how he wants to spend his life--flying. From gliders in college to piston-engine trainers, he works his way into the cockpit of supersonic fighters. Then Vietnam, with harrowing nights attacking truck convoys. His luck runs out as he and his best friend, Jack, are shot down. Jack, badly wounded, dies in Mike's arms while they are hiding from the Viet Cong.

Disillusioned, Mike returns to civilian life and enters law school at Berkeley. He becomes caught up the anti-war movement and later goes into politics, reaching Congress, and later the U.S. Senate. He is fighting for re-election in 1992 when his ex-wife, Carol, a bitter political enemy, uncovers what she believes is the terrible truth of Jack's death.

Mike knows he's done nothing wrong. But the real truth lies buried in a jungle grave, and Mike is faced with the political battle of his life.
