From Lolli the Lion
'I wonder' , said Lolli the Lion one day,
'What people, if put into cages would say? --
If I were their keeper, I'd meet all their needs,
I'd give them a menu before all their feeds
And one thing I'd give them - an absolute must -
I'd give them a bath to get rid of their dust!'.
From Chappy the Chimp
When somebody new comes to Daffodil Zoo
They don't greet the inmates with, 'how do you do',
Not one of them seems very glad to be there,
Some sulk, some roar and some tear at their hair,
But Chappy the Chimp ran around saying, 'Hi',
So everyone wondered at that and asked 'Why?'.

About the Book
Daffodil Zoo is a compilation of twelve animal stories done in humorous rhyming dialogue and imaginatively describes the emotions, hopes and aspirations, adventures and social behaviour of the cared-for residents in a typical zoo setting; creatures not fully reconciled to, or in acceptance of, being behind bars.
Use of the human language dialogue for communication among the animal characters of various species affords an immediate grasp of the unique situations, with amusing enlightenment as the stories unfold to the children audience, for whom they are intended.
About the Author
The author was born Agnes S. Paterson into a working class family as the second child of three; raised and educated through high school in Scotland.
After three years apprenticing in a law attorney's office, she volunteered for service in the WRAF (Womens Royal Air Force). Upon returning to civilian life, she became office manager with the Parks & Recreation Department of her home municipality before emigrating in 1957 to Caldwell, New Jersey where she was married, then settled in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Never blessed with children of her own, with infinite patience, she cultivated her innate instincts to mother, teaching nieces, nephews and the children of friends and neighbors that, although seemingly confined by the commanding, everyday hustle and bustle of human activity, that there is a parallel world with a great variety of species in the animal kingdom, vigorously, industriously, successfully coping with living. As a means of expressing her desire to impart and share knowledge, to excite or arouse a child's curiosity, she has created the Daffodil Zoo characters with the hope that their imagined activities will prompt children to relate to and share our common environment.
