Cloning of Legends

As he sat in the waiting room, Wilt could feel his stomach tie in knots as he thought of the consequences the test results would bring. Soon Wilt's name would be called and his life could be forever changed by what the good doctor would disclose. What if the results are positive? He wondered. How will I explain it to Kaneil (Ka-neel)? She wants to have children even more than I do. She'll be devastated. His right foot tapped incessantly as his mind wandered back to when they first met.... Turning from the pick up window he spotted an empty table. He felt fortunate to grab the still dirty table, as all the rest were full. Lunch hour at that Miami Subs was always mobbed. He hated to eat at a table that hadn't been cleaned, but it was better than eating in the car. The aroma of the feta cheese rose tantalizingly as he removed the foil covering from his chicken pita sandwich. Just then he noticed two of Pennsylvania's finest at the counter with their backs to him. A large black man, and a tall black woman. Policemen doing normal things like ordering a chicken pita, or eating a hamburger always fascinated him. There was something about the full uniform with the side arm hanging on one hip, and the billy club hanging at the other, and the tall black boots. He couldn't take his eye off the tall woman now at the beverage fountain counter, still with her back to him. He noticed how the form fitting uniform pants snugly contoured to her shapely hips. It was very flattering. These policewomen must work out. As he was daydreaming, an image crossed his mind of being pulled over for speeding by this attractive woman cop. He wondered what a woman policeman's reaction might be if a guy obviously flirted with her when pulled over, saying something like 'you're too cute to be a cop,' or something really corny like, 'what's a gorgeous creature like you doing in a police uniform?' He wondered if he might end up behind bars, or if she might be flattered. He guessed he might either get the worst ticket of his life, or he just might get lucky. He'd been attracted to black girls ever since high school, but he'd never followed through on it. The entire fantasy scene had only taken a split second. When the woman officer turned around he saw that she was the most striking black woman he had ever seen in real life. Of course, he'd never met Tyra Banks in a police uniform, but this woman was striking. She had to be around 6 feet tall in police boots, and she was very nicely built. Even with a button in the front uniform shirt she was beautifully shaped. She walked over to the table to join her partner and sat down, never noticing W.J. staring at her. He almost dropped his chicken pita. 'Mr. Chamberlain?' the nurse asked, interrupting him from his day dreaming. 'Doctor Waitley will see you now. Just follow me.' He followed her to one of the rooms off the short hallway. As she pointed to the small room with the padded examination table and one stiff-backed chair she said, 'It will only be a few minutes more Mr. Chamberlain. I know how hard it is to wait. You can have a seat in that chair.' She had no idea. Even stoplights drove him crazy when he had something important to do. And he always had something important to do. He wasn't someone who had a lot of patience-- too many ideas were always germinating in his mind. And they were great ideas, for his 184 IQ always worked to make them great. He sat down only long enough for her to close the door behind her before he jumped back up and began to pace around the 6' x 10' room. His fingers took care to make sure the tissue box lined up perfectly with the edge of the one chest of drawers on which it rested. He then gave his attention to the three pictures on the wall, adjusting each so that they were exactly straight. Then he took a tissue, dampened it with rubbing alcohol which he found next to the tissues and gently dusted a framed copy of a Philadelphia Inquirer article with Dr. Waitley's picture on it, which touted his many contributions to the area. The clean, fresh scent of the alcohol brought an involuntary smile to his lips. He then opened the top drawer and carefully rearranged its contents so that each article was spaced exactly two inches from the one next to it. These included a stethoscope, bandages, scissors, tape, an ear-thermometer, and a small flashlight used for looking into the ear. As he started to straighten the fresh paper, which covered the exam table, he heard the doorknob start to turn and he quickly sat back down, just as Dr. Waitley came in. 'Good afternoon, Wilt,' Dr. Waitley said, as he extended his right hand. Wilt stood up and shook his hand. 'Hi, doctor,' he said, trying to sound cheerful and unconcerned. He felt his heart pounding in his chest. 'Why don't you sit on the table Wilt. I'll sit here,' he said, pulling the chair over a little closer to the table. 'I'm afraid I've got some bad news for you. You have a condition called azoospermia. Essentially it means that your testicles produce no sperm.' That was just the way Wilt liked to get bad news-straight, direct, and to the point. Nonetheless, the effect of the news was devastating. Waves of nausea swept over him as the color left his face. Both hands clenched the table as he steadied himself. Even though he'd expected something serious, part of him had hoped it could at least be surgically corrected. 'Is there nothing that can be done, doctor?' 'I'm afraid it's an uncorrectable condition, Wilt. I'm sorry. I can refer you and your wife to counseling, and I can recommend some adoption agencies for you. Or if you like you can see a reproductive endocrinologist, a specialist in the area of reproduction. But I can assure you the test results are accurate. I had the lab run them twice just to be sure. For something this important I want to take no chances.' 'I was afraid it was something like this. I don't know how I'm going to tell Kaneil. We've been trying to get pregnant ever since we got married about six months ago. It's something we've both wanted our entire lives. Just one of the many things we have in common.' 'If you want you can bring Kaneil in here and I'll explain it to her.'
