Lucky went to his mouth with his napkin after each mouthful of linguine in it's olive oil sauce. He caught Vinny's eye, 'We make a deal with that old man and he betrays us it'll cost a fortune to put a contract out.'
'Contract.' Vinny's mouthful of noodles and anchovy hesitated in his throat, 'On who?'
'RCH.' Lucky put his silverware down on the table and sat back in his chair. 'You don't think I'm gonna let that Mick get the upper hand on us, do ya?'
'And what do you expect us to do, kill the President of the United States?' Vinny contested as Nicky and Louie became agitated, 'We better forget this whole thing, Christ! What the fuck is wrong with you, I hope you're not going soft as a grape in your old age.' He turned to his two friends for approval, their eyes avoided his, 'Kill the President! Crazy! Nuts! Not one time, not one time in thirty years have I said no to my boss, don't make me start now.'
Lucky kept complete calm, 'Who asked you to bump him off. I'm just telling you way up front, they cross us up, he goes. I don't put my best people in a spot like that. I'll give it to the animals.'
'It can't be done, the roof will fall in, they'll crucify us, something like that is gonna put us all out of business, permanently, you know that. The FBI, the CIA, they'll even use the military to come after us. You forget, how long the mob lasted in Sicily when Mussolini went after them?'
'Let me ask you this, how long did Mussolini last when we went after him? No. The guy has to go if they cross us up. If we can help give the power, then we got to be able to take it away.'
'Then we should go after the old man, it'll be a cinch. He spends all of his time at his place on the cape, we could go in by boat or several other ways, it'll be easy.'
'For what? You surprise me, kill the old man, that won't take the power away. We'll have to eliminate the kids.'
'The kids? Now you want to hit the whole family!'

About the Author
Louis J. Calabrese was born in Western Massachusetts in 1940 where much of this novel unfolds. The author also resided in Las Vegas, Nevada where much of the novel was written. He presently resides in his old hometown of Springfield, Massachusetts with his wife and four children.
Mr. Calabrese spent twenty years of his life owning and operating bookstores from 1960 through 1980, the heyday of the independent bookstore. Through his time spent managing bookstores he developed a wonderful knowledge of the type of book the masses enjoyed reading. This was a historical period in the business when general bookstore owners were marched to the local courthouse quite regularly for selling items like Playboy and Penthouse Magazine, 'The Carpetbaggers' by Harold Robbins, and many other books with a few too many four letter words.
In the author's travels though the years 1959 through 1963 the novel is crafted on a dead serious subject with many injections of street humor in his successful attempt to convert the novel to light reading.
The author is a former owner-operator of bookstores, motels, a sports car dealership, and a liquor store.
This is the author's first novel, which was influenced by his association with gangsters, politicians, law enforcement officials, and the new emerging legal Mafia.
