At that minute the rain started with thunder and lighting, the storm increased, the electricity went off. The weather was slightly cold, the non-functioning furnace was not a problem as the warmth from the fireplace created a cozy atmosphere. By the light from the fire Sage went to the bar and mixed a scotch for him, she paused for a minute and mixed one for herself. She rarely drank, as her tolerance for alcohol was low. They sat on the thick rug in front of the fireplace and sipped their drinks. He put his arm around her shoulder her. She welcomed the security of a man's arm, she had forgotten how good it felt. Millie whispered, "Sage you are physically famished for sex. Relax, you are feeling the effects of the scotch and are not responsible for your actions. Why not give yourself to this handsome man who says that he has always loved you? Even if doesn't lead to anything, you will enjoy it." Sage took Millie's advice and smiled, "If we are going to engage in serious love making and it seems to be headed in that direction, I suggest my bedroom. There's a magnificent feather mattress on the bed." He stood up and pulled her to him as he whispered in her ear, "My precious Sage, I know I must be dreaming. I only hope I can live up to your expectations." He kissed her tenderly and held her closer. His touch was soft and gentle but Sage felt the strength of his love that penetrated her very being. She looked into his eyes that radiated his devotion. At that moment Sage knew she loved him with all the love she would ever possess. She heard Millie, "Tell him Sage!" Sage hesitated, "This is the most insane thing I have done in my life. Sex stopped for me with my divorce. The scotch has released me from the morality and purity that our society burdens me with. I must confess we haven't been together long but at this minute I feel - with all my being - you are the supreme and everlasting love of my life. He breathed deeply, "Sage you have answered my dreams. You will never know how I have longed to hear you say that." They kissed with passion that generated sensations of desire for sensual pleasure racing thorough their bodies. He spoke quietly as his voice trembled with excitement, "Sage, where is your bedroom?" She grinned, "Let me grab a flashlight."

About the Book
At the beginning of World War II Sage Nolan and her roommate, Millie, were students at a University near an Army Training Center, where young men were Just Passing Through the training process. Two of these soldiers played significant roles in the lives of the pretty co-eds and romance flourish, until Millie's untimely and tragic death. Sage was devastated. Life without Millie was impossible until she realized that Millie was with her spiritually. As time passed, Millie assisted Sage in her confused quest for her true and faithful lover. Could it the boy she dated at the University? Is it the boy from home, that she has always assumed she would marry, or the extremely handsome soldier that she hardly knew? Sage's inability to judge beyond the façade of the three men in her life causes a constant struggle and complicates her already stormy existence. Millie's mystical presence is with Sage as she is involved in these love affairs that are exciting, intimate and passionately physical. With Millie's thoughtful help, Sage eventually resolved her destiny.
About the Author
Kelley Lanier lived in various sections of the country before selecting Florida as her permanent home. Her busy career has encompassed library science and numerous forms of commercial art. Her experience as an artist and writer, have been strongly influenced by her knowledge of astrology. As she followed the planets through the heavens and studied them, as they applied to her, it became apparent, that she should be writing. Once she started writing, Kelley felt that writing is similar to painting. She compares the two by explaining, "On a blank canvas or computer screen, I sketch in the background for the picture, or the setting for the story. The characters in the book correspond to the objects in the painting. The location and size of the items on the canvas, or the people in the story, designates their relative importance to the painting, or to the book. Once the background is established, and the setting is completed, their unique personalities began to emerge and paint their own picture or write their own book." Just Passing Through is Kelley's third novel.
