About the Book

Sebastian is a novel, which explores the deeper realms of mysticism and esoteric spirituality and one which may be read at a number of different levels.

Because the soul or life-force, which animates the story’s protagonist is that which was previously incarnate in those figures known to history as Jesus of Nazareth and the first Dalai Lama, it will be read by some as a novel about reincarnation and by others as a story about the Second Coming of the Christ.

Still others will read it as an account of life lived on a plane of consciousness far higher than that of consensus reality and as an invitation to the reader to explore these higher states for themselves.

Throughout, Sebastian contains elements of Gnostic Christianity and Taoism as well as both Zen and Tibetan Buddhist esoteric teaching and is therefore highly eclectic in its underlying mysticism. Within its pages, and as an integral part of the narrative, there also appear scenes of Tantric sexual practice, scenes in which the lovemaking of two persons is elevated to such a degree that it too becomes a means through which the higher states of consciousness are entered.

In a word, and at the deepest level, Sebastian is a parable about the single noncontingent reality of this or any other plane of being. It is a story about Love.

"For me-- tears welled, not so much in response to-- the often exquisite beauty of the words, but because the book touched that inner part of me that connects with the numinous."
