KING ARTHUR THE LEGEND OF YESTER YEAR

It was a cool breezy fall evening in Afganahound. It was nice and cozy in Miss Kitty’s and King Chewah’s castle, for in their huge fire place, a flaming fire was roaring.

Miss Kitty, Queen of Afganahound, called her friend Miss Sweetwater to come and visit. Miss Sweetwater was delighted to hear from her good friend Miss Kitty. Miss Kitty said, "Miss Sweetwater, do you remember years ago when we would sit around and tell stories?" Miss Sweetwater said, "Why yes, I certainly love to spin yarns of yester year."

Miss Kitty said, "why don’t you come over and visit?"

Miss Sweetwater said, "I can be at the castle shortly. Why don’t you get the family together so we can enjoy the evening?"

Miss Kitty called Madam Lazanga, her advisor, Princess Kitty, her granddaughter, Prince Spike, Princess Kitty’s husband, Queen Chewe, her stepdaughter, her husband, Prince Big Paws, Prince Albert, their son and Miss Kitty’s grandson and lastly, her dear husband, King Chewah.

The family always enjoyed a family gathering with story telling. Especially with Miss Sweetwater joining them.

Miss Kitty said, "Miss Sweetwater you are a great story teller. Do you remember the last gathering we had you promised to tell us the Legend of King Arthur."

"Why yes," Miss Sweetwater said. "I do remember making that promise but it was so long ago. I do hope I can fulfill that promise."

Miss Sweetwater began the tale. Many, many years ago, about the 5^th century, a young man named Arthur tried to retrieve the magical Excalibur sword.

The legend of the Excalibur sword was, whoever could withdraw the Excalibur imbedded in the stone, would become King. Arthur, at 15, was able to extract the Excalibur sword and he surely became King.

The legend fortold, he who controls the sword controls history.

Princess Kitty asked, "Where was this stone Miss Sweetwater?" Miss Sweetwater said, "the legend does not say specifically where this stone was, but some say it was possible that the magical Excalibur sword was imbedded in a stone which was located in Stonehenge, which is in Salisbury England."

Madam Lazanga spoke up, "You know that is quite possible. The Excalibur could have been found in Stonehenge, for legend has it that Merlin the Druid

Magician, removed these stones that are now in Stonehenge from Ireland by air. Princess Kitty said, "by air, they had no airplanes thousands of years ago." Madam Lazanga said, "it was believed that Merlin moved the stones, by magic, from Ireland to Stonehenge."

Miss Kitty said, "Madam Lazanga, when we visited Stonehenge, there seemed to be electricity in the air. I felt my whole body shake. It was a very strange, but somehow, a magical place. It seemed like we were surrounded by spirits." Madam Lazanga said, "Miss Kitty, that is nothing new, it seems everywhere you go, the spirits seem to follow you."

Madam Lazanga said, "Do you remember seeing all those mounds of earth on top of the hill? Well that was the Druid Burial Ground."

Miss Kitty said, "Well, did the Druids build this huge circle of stones?" Madam Lazanga said, "It was thought that at one time, but the archaeologists proved that theory incorrect. The carbon samples proved that the Druids came afterwards."

"So then, did Merlin the Magician move the stones to Stonehenge by magic, from Ireland? It was written in King Arthur’s Legends. Does anyone really know?"

Madam Lazanga said, "Another theory was, after the stones were in Stonehenge, the stones were positioned so when the sun shone through the stones, it sent a shadow and it united the Sky God and the Earth Goddess."

Miss Kitty said, "That theory sounds more reasonable, for they believed in the Sky God and the Earth Goddess. In reality those huge stones must have taken hundreds of years to move and assemble in Stonehenge."

Madam Lazanga said, "Stonehenge may have been a temple for worship or an observatory for the study of the stars."

Miss Kitty said, "That’s very possible, for people have worshiped their Gods for thousands of years. The stars have also been studied for thousands of years, so it could have been used for both. I believe they studied the stars in order to determine the seasons."

Miss Sweetwater said, "Now getting back to King Arthur, he removed the Excalibur, the magical sword, so he became King. King Arthur removed the sword after many many Knights had failed to accomplish this task."

"King Arthur was blessed. He named his Kingdom Camelot, The Golden City."

"Arthur was the son of Uther Pendragon a Welch Chieftan, and Ingrine his mother of Cornwall."
