About the Book
In a time of grief over his first romantic misunderstanding, Nelson realized that his feelings had to be expressed. Worrying about not wanting to bore anyone with his problems and realizing the amount of long hours he worked in front of a computer, he realized that writing out exactly what was felt during intense moments seemed to ease the pain. Not knowing that there would soon be a whole collection of poems as he continued writing about other romantic situations, he made the poems into a file that would be kept only for himself. After meeting someone very special, his first true love, he wrote much more and made the file into a chapter that would at some point be made into a complete book including other serious and comic poems. And so, this book is a collection of four chapters that examine humor, family, love and the world around him. After having won multiple contests, being published by Poetry.com, and drawing a crowd of interested readers by being placed regularly in Berkeley College’s school newsletter, Nelson is finally releasing all of his earliest work for others to read. The "New Poet" hopes that his honesty, creativity, comic wit and deepest feelings will get others into reading, understanding, writing, and most importantly, enjoying the art of poetry. Truth, Comedy, & Poetry for All is the new American Dream.
About the Author
I have to admit, making it to college without having a girlfriend is pretty amazing. But that is how my life worked out until that point. I never had any urges to want to write either, but that changed in college too. I never really cared for poetry, however that is something that I will never be able to say again. We can never say that we know what the future holds, but at least we can always look back at what the past had in store for us and we can always keep going back to it so that we can learn from our mistakes. I found out that through poetry, we can create an "album" of our best and worst moments and thoughts. This is why writing poetry is so interesting to me. I am fascinated with analyzing how our thinking changes and how we "evolve" over time and learn from our past mistakes in life and relationships. However, beyond that, I also think that poetry is a wonderful way to express exactly what is being felt without having to worry about all those rules of grammar and punctuations. I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. I was the straight "A" student who was always into drawing, and working on short vampire stories. I never, in a million years, figured that I would end up writing poetry. I mean, I was never into even reading any poetry besides anything that I was forced to read for my schoolwork along the years. But here I am at 23 years of age, finally self-publishing my first book and trying to get others into expressing themselves as I now do. I love the feeling of letting my words and emotions escape me so freely without worries of perfection. Poetry has opened my eyes to interpreting everything around me as well as to being a little more open about my feelings. It certainly helped me to cope with those long nights of broken hearts and it certainly has helped me share some rather interesting tales. I just still find it hard to believe that this all started from just one romantic misunderstanding. Truth, Comedy, & Poetry for All is my very first poetry book. To me, it is a photo album where my thoughts and ideas, instead of pictures, were placed as I went through all my first stages--creativity, joy, and heartbreak. It is also an album where I put in images of how much I cared for my mother, and how creative I can get with thieves, vampires and crazy childhood situations. I like to think of this book as my stepping stone towards publicly expressing my feelings with more than just my friends, and also perhaps as a stepping stone to getting others to share their ideas as well.
