Spanning over forty years, from The Depression to the 70’s, Fate is the saga of Becky Meyers, born and raised in the raucous copper mining town of Butte, Montana, who overcomes incredible odds and becomes the president of a leading San Francisco department store and later a partner in a major airline. This too is the story of a young man, Jonathan Matthew Douglas, who was born out of wedlock, raised in foster homes, and forced to work as a hired hand on the citrus farms of Orange County, California. Jonathan becomes a major force in the growth of Alaska. Along with his brave and daring partners, he builds a major shipping and airline company. Becky and Jonathan meet on a train after leaving their routes behind to begin a new life: one bound for San Francisco, the other Alaska. From the fashion houses of the world to the Alaskan frontier, Fate brings these two people together after twenty years. A crash on one of Northern Airlines’ planes and its aftermath will reveal the deep dark secret Becky Meyers has kept all of her adult life from her son, lover, and family.
About the Author
Jacqueline Cooper, born and raised in Butte, Montana, was the daughter of a Jewish merchant whose father had settled in the mining town in the early 1870’s. Mrs. Cooper attended the University of Montana in Missoula and later worked in leading department stores in San Francisco and Los Angeles. Mrs. Cooper and her husband, a veteran B17 pilot in World War II, were partners in an insurance agency in Los Angeles. They continued to fly as a hobby until Mr. Cooper passed away in 1994. Jacqueline, now living in Santa Barbara, California, is the mother of two daughters, Julia Loggins, a published writer in her own right, and Susan Cooper Taublieb, a producer and director for the Fox Family Channel. Her five grandchildren and writing are the loves of her life.
