If you can con people into believing a myth which they can never explode, you can continue to con them into pouring their efforts and energies into whatever direction you desire. An elite group, acting on the "authority" of a book of "sacred text," becomes all-powerful by cleverly twisting the words of the sacred text in whatever way they need to serve their own ends. To this elite group, the renaissance of the new world is temporary.
That is why there needs to be a homeland for atheists. The automatized indoctrinations from a religious leader are designed to push buttons that call up an automatic response. This stimulus-response mechanism is what the leader wants, not a response from the person himself.
Religionists don't think an explanation of how life works is possible and don't want one to come into being because it would take away their racket. It is wrong to thwart the growth of knowledge, particularly in the areas of biology and medicine, in which greater knowledge can save lives.
Religion is hollow as far as methods and ideas are concerned. It tries to make itself relevant and achieves its only sense of continuance by latching on to the customs and traditions of the world. An example of this is the Christmas season, which is really a descendant of pagan rituals celebrating the winter solstice and the "return of the unconquered sun" (since this is the time of year when you have the shortest day of the year and the days start to increase in length after that). Religions try to take credit for all the generosity and good cheer that accompany the season, but all the good cheer could exist entirely without religion.
Perhaps if the founding fathers of America were here to see the results of religion (at least, the way it has developed), they would have specified a tolerance for differences, but not for religion.
The basic theme of the Bible stories is that some innocent has the spiritual qualities that lead people to want to take advantage of him sexually. Likewise, priests sexually abuse those who come to them for help. You will find this true if you read The X-rated Bible from American Atheists.
The way to any kind of knowledge is through exploration, not through bowing down to any authority. The religious are against creativity and against reality, both of which invalidate their authority and their view of existence. They become desperate to have their worldview validated by others. When one tries to debate religious people, he is at a disadvantage because usually a large portion of the audience are already the mind-slaves of the religious and will blindly support the pro-religion debater's goals, even though they have no goals of their own.
The atheist experience here in the U.S. may have had some advantages but doesn't come close to having all the attributes that are possible in a fully realized atheist experience. Here, as opposed to the U.S.S.R., we have freethought. In Russia, though the official doctrine was atheist, it was a practice imposed by the state. That is not what I am advocating when I talk about an atheistic country. Some people are hostile to having atheists live among them, and this has led to much persecution, just as hostility to Jews has led to persecution of that group. The state of Israel was created so Jews could have a place where they can feel at home. Likewise, we need to create a place where atheists can feel at home.
The idea of an atheist state has never actually been tried. In the Soviet Union, the feelings of mysticism and reverence for authority that had been directed to the church were redirected toward the state through doublespeak.
For the sake of civilization, an atheist-capitalist state needs to be tried simply because no one has ever tried it before. For the sake of humanity, it should be given a chance. If not, then what did all that talk about democratic ideals throughout the sixties mean? Could it have been just talk used to con the public? The legitimacy of democracy itself is at stake.
This country has gone off the gold standard, which means that you don't really know how much you are making because it is all paper profits. The world's money is headed down the sewer of altruism. The Muslims, Jews, and Christians -and perhaps the Buddhists of Japan - have formed an emotion-based pact to destroy the realists.
But there is a worse problem in the U.S. than monetary bankruptcy, and that is emotional-logical belief bankruptcy. It is up to each individual to make more of such currency, instead of leaving it to "experts," such as priests and others with non-logical beliefs. Most people lack the necessary grounding to have the courage to do this, even for themselves. The U.S. culture represses self-esteem, as Nathaniel Branden has said. Secularism has been under attack, even in the Wall Street Journal. Commercials are full of the culture of black choir religion, and the talk show hosts are religious. The courts, the Congress, and the President are against secularism. There is no compelling spokesman to speak up for secularism. This is why physical action needs to be taken, such as building a new society.
