This could be a very easy chapter to write. Simply put, if God says, "Don’t do it", then that’s that! Don’t "look", don’t "touch", as a matter of fact, don’t even "think" about it. Now I realize as well as you that, to the "babe in Christ", the Word of God can sometimes "appear" to be complex and grayish, leaving some people "choking on the meat". However, on the subject of lust, the Word of God is unmistakably clear, precise, and "sharper than any two-edged sword". You could spend eternity looking for loop holes only to end up with that very loop wrapped around your neck. So don't even bother looking for a grey, blue, or even green area. God's Word is all black and white when it comes to this one.
Wisdom, Oh to have the Lord's! Solomon had a great deal of it, yet, even he fell. What makes us think that we can even dabble without at least some wisdom. If there’s one point God is constantly driving home to us, it is that by playing with fire, you "will", most definitely, get burned! In this case, the fire is a seductive women. In proverbs 6:23-33 we read:
For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life: (verse 23)
To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman. (verse 24)
Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids. (verse 25)
For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adulteress will hunt for the precious life. (verse 26)
Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned? (verse 27)
Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned? (verse 28)
So he that goeth in to his neighbour’s wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent. (verse 29)
Men do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry; (verse 30)
But if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house. (verse 31)
But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul. (verse 32)
A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away. (verse 33)
Do we even have to go any further? We shouldn't have to, but sometimes a little pounding of The Word can go along way. So let's continue. In I Corinthians 6:15-20 we read:
Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid. (verse 15)
What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith He, shall be one flesh. (verse 16)
But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit. (verse 17)
Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. (verse 18)
What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? (verse 19)
For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s. (verse 20)
This is an extremely important point that The Word makes here. There are many sins we commit in our lives, but the lust of the flesh (fornication) which is taken from the Greek word porneia from which we get the word "pornography", this sin not only harms our soul and fellowship with the Lord, but it also harms our own bodies. The Bible doesn't say exactly how, but it can be safe to say that sickness and disease have to be "up there" on the list. In verse nineteen we see how our body is indwelt by the Holy Ghost after our conversion to Jesus Christ and therefore actually becomes the "temple" of God! This knowledge alone should be enough to keep us from wanting to perform any harmful act against it. In verse twenty we see that our bodies are bought with a price (they have worth, contrary to what the theory of evolution would have us think). We are told to "Glorify God in our body". "Well, how do we do that?" you might ask. Well, by one not piercing it, tattooing it, committing adultery or fornication with it. The most important part of verse twenty is in the latter part which states that our body, our entire person, is God's. It is not our own, which only makes sense, since He bought it with His own blood on the Cross!
Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge. (Hebrews 13:4)
And in I John 2:16-17 we again read about the lust of the flesh:
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. (verse 16)
And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. (verse 17)
Why does God keep speaking of lust? Well, common sense tells us that if it were not a big problem for us, then God wouldn't keep warning us about it over and over again.
The mouth of strange women is a deep pit: he that is abhorred of the Lord shall fall therein. (Proverbs 22:14)
Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things. (Proverbs 23:33)
Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings. (Proverbs 31:3)
And in Proverbs 7 we read:
That they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the stranger which flattereth with her words. (verse 5)
For at the window of my house I looked through my casement, (verse 6)
And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding, (verse 7)
Passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house, (verse 8)
In the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night: (verse 9)
And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of an harlot, and subtle of heart. (verse 10)
She is loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house: (verse 11)
Now is she without, now in the streets, and lieth in wait at every corner. (verse 12)
So she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said unto him, (verse 14)
I have peace offerings with me; this day have I payed my vows. (verse 14)
Therefore came I forth to meet thee, diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee. (verse 15)
I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt. (verse 16)
I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon. (verse 17)
Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: let us solace ourselves with loves. (verse 18)
For the goodman is not at home, he is gone a long journey: (verse 19)
He hath taken a bag of
