About the Book

"I may be a lot be things, including a racist, but I'm not a murderer." So says Harold Jessup, a Klansman wrongfully accused of murdering an African American reporter, to African American Detective Harley Jefferson, the reporter's best friend. Both are main characters in My Brother's Keeper, a poignant and engrossing story about two very different men who must put aside their differences and join forces to solve a series of murders. As both men get to know each other, they slowly come to the realization that they are not so different after all.

My Brother's Keeper is a very simple story with a very simple message for our times. A message of hope.

About the Author

My Brother's Keeper is Mary Bertha Attole's first novel. She credits her family and her devout Catholic faith as the main reason for writing this book, which is why the dedication in her book reads: To my family and my Catholic faith. Miss Attole hopes that people who read this book will realize that racism is not only ethically wrong, but also morally wrong. She has also written the screenplay version of this book. In addition to writing, Miss Attole loves reading, keeping up with current events, cooking, telling jokes, taking care of her pets, and doing weekly volunteer work at her local church, St. Mathilda Catholic Church, where she is a proud member. Miss Attole describes herself as "just a simple country girl and proud of it." She was born and raised in the Creole community of Mallet in Southwestern Louisiana. Her devout Catholic parents spoke only French, so Miss Attole was taught English by her schoolteachers. She now lives in Eunice, LA, with her mother Elia Guillory Attole, her brother Anthony Attole, and her sister Mary Ann Attole. Her father Antoine Attole is deceased.
