I Love You, Mom

My Mother Prayed For Me

I loved you with all my heart.
I told you that I would not depart.
One day I became sad
because I wanted to do what was bad.

A faithful wife I once was.
But he ran around and killed my love.
So I left him with much glee.
Started doing my own thing you see.

Mother told me, child don’t go that way.
Get on your knees; for him and pray.
I’ve told you the right thing to do.
I will pray for you, too.

I went to clubs and had fun.
My badness had just begun.
I started dating any I could find.
Looking for love to ease my mind.

With tears in her old brown eyes,
she told me I was living nothing but lies.
You will never find the peace you seek.
He gives it to only the meek.

I swore every minute of the day.
Knowing that I’d get my way.
I did things that was uncommon for me.
Because this is the way I wanted to be.

My jeans were very tight.
They hugged every curve just right.
My skirts were very short.
The men eyes couldn’t abort.

One day I found her on her knees praying.
Till this day I know not what she was saying.
Tears ran down until she couldn’t see
I somehow knew she was praying for me.

Friends and family tried to turn me around.
My wayward course I wanted to abound.
I liked my life very much.
Doing as I pleased with a soft touch.

One day I was told to come home.
When I got there Mother was dying; I felt so alone.
We rushed her to the hospital as fast as we could.
Not enough breath to put fire out on wood.

The tears came as I held her hand.
I kissed her; on her cheek they did land.
As I began to speak to her.
She ask me not to say a word.

Through painful eyes my Mother said,
"Soon, very soon I will be dead.
I still am praying for you so let me speak.
Though my body is terribly weak."

"You will face much in this life.
People will hurt you just because it’s not right.
He will give you strength that’ll carry you through.
When others leave; he will be there for you."

"I am old so just listen to me.
This pain that you have happens to all of us you see.
The difference between the weak and the strong?
Is he gives us strength to carry on.

"The love and peace of mind that you seek;
are only given to those that are meek.
As I die my words won’t be heard.
There is more to life that you deserve."

I held her hand as she closed her eyes.
I decided right then to stop the lies.
Changing my life for all to see,
because my Mother prayed for me.
